How are priests paid?
It
is often assumed that priests get paid through the Offertory Collection taken
up at Masses in the parish every weekend. However, this is not the case. The
Offertory Collection goes to fund the day to day running and maintenance of the
parish.
Easter
Sunday and Christmas Day are the only two offertory collections
in the year that contribute to the income of the priests of the parish. The
proceeds from these two collections together with the Station Dues, November
Novena Offerings and Stole Fees make up the priests income. Stole Fees are the
donations given to priests at Baptisms, Weddings and Funerals.
Fr.
Martin and Fr. Seán are very grateful for the constant financial and prayerful
support they receive from the people of the parish.
