Lord, the resurrection of Your Son
has given us new life and renewed hope.
Help us to live as new people

THE DEEP END • He is Risen!
RTÉ recently showed a documentary called ‘Somebody to Love’, which explored the romantic lives of people with physical or intellectual disabilities. The honest style of the programme struck a chord with many viewers, and Twitter was immediately awash with positive comments – ‘inspiring without being patronising’; ‘in depth and thought provoking’; ‘a beautiful, positive documentary’ just some of the compliments. It was heartening to see such praise for a well-made programme, and even more so to hear the stories of the people who took part and the obstacles they had overcome in their search for love.
Easter is a time to celebrate life and love. We are Easter people, but what does this mean? We use the word ‘Alleluia’ (Praise the Lord) a lot at Easter, and the Exsultet or Easter Proclamation tells us to rejoice! Exult! All the things we associate with Easter – chicks, bunnies, lambs, flowers – are signs of spring and new beginnings. Easter brings new life and hope. Are we positive about life, recognising the dignity of every person? Are our parishes and communities places of welcome, joy and love?
‘He is risen! And because He is risen, we too shall rise... The anticipation of eternal life is the source and reason for our hope. If cultivated and protected, it illuminates our lives as persons and communities.’ Pope Francis

Home Share is an initiative that provides short breaks for children and adults who attend COPE Foundation. Home Sharers are recruited from the community and the respite care/short break is provided in the sharer’s home. These short breaks can be for a couple of hours, overnights, week-ends or even longer.
Many families take great joy in caring for their loved ones, however providing this care on an ongoing basis can be extremely tiring and stressful. Having a short break from this care giving can be of huge benefit to the care giver, their family and the person being cared for.
Home sharers can be working, retired, or unemployed with or without children, single or with a partner.
Training, support and an allowance will be provided to Home Sharers.
Interested?
If you would like more information or if you are interested in becoming a Home Sharer please ring Philip Grant on 021 4643238 or e-mail grantp@cope-foundation.ie

Holy Week                                   in                                Bantry Parish 2014

During Holy Week, we commemorate the Passion of Christ, who died on Good Friday for our sins, and rose on Easter Sunday to give new life to all who believe. Attending at the ceremonies during Holy Week is our way of journeying with Christ thorough His death and resurrection.

In the past we celebrated this journey in each of the three churches in Bantry Parish. However, we now find ourselves with just two priests in the parish where there used to be five and we have to plan for this reality. We have to time ceremonies so that if one priest is unavailable the other can lead almost all of the scheduled ceremonies. Therefore, this year, we will have the full complement of ceremonies in the parish church in Bantry, but for the first time, ceremonies will be shared between Kealkil and Coomhola Churches. We will celebrate Holy Thursday and Holy Saturday in Kealkil and Good Friday in Coomhola.
The Holy Week Schedule is as follows:
