BANTRY PARISH NEWSLETTER
Easter Day of the Lord’s resurrection
Sunday 20th
April 2014
During this Easter Season
may you experience the
Peace of the Risen Christ.
Lord, the resurrection of Your Son
has given us new life and renewed hope.
Help us to live as new people
in pursuit of the Christian ideal.
Grant us wisdom to know
what we must do,
the will to want to do it,
the courage to undertake it,
the perseverance to continue to do it,
and the strength to complete it.

THE DEEP END • He is Risen!
RTÉ recently showed a documentary called ‘Somebody to
Love’, which explored the romantic lives of people with physical or
intellectual disabilities. The honest style of the programme struck a chord
with many viewers, and Twitter was immediately awash with positive comments –
‘inspiring without being patronising’; ‘in depth and thought provoking’; ‘a
beautiful, positive documentary’ just some of the compliments. It was
heartening to see such praise for a well-made programme, and even more so to
hear the stories of the people who took part and the obstacles they had
overcome in their search for love.
Easter is a time to celebrate life and love. We are
Easter people, but what does this mean? We use the word ‘Alleluia’ (Praise the
Lord) a lot at Easter, and the Exsultet or Easter Proclamation tells us to
rejoice! Exult! All the things we associate with Easter – chicks, bunnies,
lambs, flowers – are signs of spring and new beginnings. Easter brings new life
and hope. Are we positive about life, recognising the dignity of every person?
Are our parishes and communities places of welcome, joy and love?
‘He is risen! And because He is risen, we too shall
rise... The anticipation of eternal life is the source and reason for our hope.
If cultivated and protected, it illuminates our lives as persons and communities.’

Home
Share
is
an initiative that provides short breaks for children and adults who attend
COPE Foundation. Home Sharers are recruited from the community and the respite
care/short break is provided in the sharer’s home. These short breaks can be
for a couple of hours, overnights, week-ends or even longer.
Many families take great joy in
caring for their loved ones, however providing this care on an ongoing basis
can be extremely tiring and stressful. Having a short break from this care
giving can be of huge benefit to the care giver, their family and the person
being cared for.
Home sharers can be working,
retired, or unemployed with or without children, single or with a partner.
Training, support and an allowance
will be provided to Home Sharers.

you would like more information or if you are interested in becoming a Home
